The Eightfold Way: The Beauty of Klein's Quartic Curve by Silvio Levy,

The Eightfold Way: The Beauty of Klein's Quartic Curve by Silvio Levy,
The German mathematician Felix Klein discovered in 1879 that the surface that we now call the Klein quartic has many remarkable properties, including an incredible 336-fold symmetry, the maximum possible degree of symmetry for any surface of its type. Since then, mathematicians have discovered that the same object comes up in different guises in many areas of mathematics, from complex analysis and geometry to number theory. This volume explores the rich tangle of properties and theories surrounding this multiform object. It includes expository and research articles by renowned mathematicians in different fields. It also includes a beautifully illustrated essay by the mathematical sculptor Helaman Ferguson, who distilled some of the beauty and remarkable properties of this surface into a sculpture entitled "The Eightfold Way." The book closes with the first English translation of Klein's seminal article on this surface.

The Works of Archimedes by Archimedes,
The Works of Archimedes by Archimedes,
The complete works of antiquity's great geometer appear here in a highly accessible English translation by a distinguished scholar. Remarkable for his range of thought and his mastery of treatment, Archimedes addressed such topics as the famous problems of the ratio of the areas of a cylinder and an inscribed sphere; the measurement of a circle; the properties of conoids, spheroids, and spirals; and the quadrature of the parabola. This edition offers an informative introduction with many valuable insights into the ancient mathematician's life and thought as well as the views of his contemporaries. Modern mathematicians, physicists, science historians, and logicians will find this volume a source of timeless fascination. Unabridged reprint of the classic 1897 edition, with supplement of 1912.

Rouse Ball Professor of English Law - The Rouse Ball Professorship of English Law is one of the senior professorships in Law at Cambridge University, and was founded in 1927 by a bequest from the mathematician Rouse Ball.

William Emerson (mathematician) - William Emerson (14 May 1701 - 20 May 1782), English mathematician, was born at Hurworth, near Darlington, where his father, Dudley Emerson, also a mathematician, taught a school. Unsuccessful as a teacher, he devoted himself entirely to studious retirement, and published many works which are singularly free from errata.

Robert Smith (mathematician) - Robert Smith (1689 - February 2, 1768) was an English mathematician and music theorist.

John Smith (mathematician) - John Smith was an English mathematician: He held the Savilian Chair of Geometry at the University of Oxford from 1766 to 1797.
